Two people were fortunate to walk away with only minor injuries when a Blue Bell ice cream truck and a tractor-trailer hauling glass recently collided on Interstate 75 near Wildwood.
The tractor-trailer, driven by a man from Bushnell, was headed southbound on the highway when it drifted toward the shoulder and struck the ice cream truck, Villages-News reports. The truck had been parked on the shoulder at the time of the collision.
The tractor-trailer driver, who reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He and a Tennessee woman who was behind the wheel of the ice cream truck surprisingly suffered only minor injuries, according to Villages-News.
Whether it is a tractor-trailer or an ice cream truck, commercial vehicles pose a real risk to others on the road. That is both because of the size of these vehicles and the long stretches of time that their drivers often spend behind the wheel.
When accidents happen, they can cause serious and even life-threatening injuries. They can often also raise complicated questions about who is to blame for the crash. It is vital that anyone injured in a crash seek the advice of an experienced personal injury lawyer.
Legal Rights for People Injured in Florida Car and Truck Accidents
If you or a loved one has been injured in an auto accident in Florida, you have the right to seek compensation from those responsible. An attorney can help you navigate the legal process.
Truck and other commercial vehicle drivers, like other motorists, have a legal responsibility to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner. They are required to comply with traffic laws, remain alert at all times and avoid dangerous activity like drinking and driving or using a cell phone behind the wheel. A driver who does not live up to this responsibility is likely to be found negligent and liable for any accidents that happen as a result of the negligence.
In many cases, the company that employs the commercial driver may also be liable. Employers are generally responsible for accidents caused by their employees in the course of their jobs.
