A tragic accident involving four separate cars is yet another unfortunate reminder of the safety hazards that can come with getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.

A 65-year-old Weirsdale man was killed in November when the van he was driving collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle on U.S. 19 in Citrus County, Villages-News reports. The van was launched into the air in the collision, eventually landing in a nearby median.

The SUV, driven by a Georgia man, then collided with a pickup truck. The SUV was overturned and then rammed by a sedan that was not able to stop suddenly, Villages-News said.

The van driver was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The SUV driver and a passenger in the vehicle were taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.

Villages-News reports that the other two drivers suffered minor injuries.

The accident comes as fatal car accidents are reportedly on the rise during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Compensation for Car Accidents

Anyone who has been injured in a car accident in Florida has the right to seek compensation from those responsible for the crash, whether it is a negligent driver or a malfunctioning car manufacturer. In the tragic event that a person dies in a crash, his or her loved ones have the right to seek similar compensation for wrongful death.

No amount of money will ever be able to turn back the clock and prevent a collision from happening. The money damages typically involved in these cases is instead meant to ease much of the financial burden that often comes with a car accident.

To be able to get that compensation, you generally have to be able to prove negligence. Car drivers, for example, owe others on the road a “duty of care” to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner. That means complying with traffic laws and avoiding risky behavior like speeding and texting or drinking and driving. A driver that does not meet this responsibility is likely to be found negligent and responsible for any accidents that happen as a result.
