A Villages man was seriously injured in a recent accident in which his golf cart rolled over.
The 82-year-old Village of Virginia Trace resident was thrown from his vehicle at the multi-modal path along Morse Boulevard at Bonita Boulevard, Villages-News reports. The single-cart crash reportedly happened after he lost control, veered right and the vehicle tipped over.
The man was ejected from the cart and pinned underneath it, Villages-News said, citing a Florida Highway Patrol report. It is unclear whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Single-vehicle and rollover golf cart accidents are unfortunately common in the Villages, where using a golf cart is a popular way to get around. They often result in drivers and passengers being ejected from their vehicles, especially those who are not wearing seatbelts.
These Types of Crashes Can Result in a Wide Range of Serious and Even Fatal Injuries
Negligence is a common factor in rollover crashes, whether it is the driver of the cart that rolls over or others in traffic that are to blame. Road obstructions, vehicle defects and malfunctions, and poor path maintenance are also frequently cited as factors in crashes.
The good news is that anyone injured in a golf cart accident in Florida has the right to seek compensation from those responsible. A Villages golf cart accident attorney at our firm can help you understand your rights and options.
Golf cart and other vehicle drivers owe others on the road a legal responsibility to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner. That means complying with traffic laws and local rules about where golf carts can and cannot be driven, as well as using turn signals, maintaining appropriate speeds and refraining from aggressive driving. It also means avoiding dangerous behavior like drinking and texting behind the wheel.
Golf cart manufacturers, meanwhile, have a responsibility to design and produce vehicles that are reasonably safe to use.
When drivers and manufacturers do not live up to their responsibilities, they are likely to be considered negligent and legally responsible for any accidents that happen as a result.
