A The Villages resident who caused a recent car accident involving three vehicles is being forced to have her driving privileges re-examined.
The 36-year-old woman caused the collision when her Chevy Cruze accelerated abruptly and slammed into a Subaru Outback in front of it, police told Villages-News. The Cruze then swerved into head-on traffic, forcing the driver of a Ford F-150 off of the road. The Cruze reportedly swung back and struck the Outback a second time.
The woman, who police said in an accident report was “emotional and crying,” reportedly told police officers that she “blacked out” behind the wheel. She was transported to a local hospital.
According to the news outlet, the Cruze driver was also ordered to seek a re-examination of her driver’s license.
State law provides for such re-examinations “to determine the competence and driving ability of any driver causing or contributing to the cause of any crash resulting in death, personal injury, or property damage.” The Department of Motor Vehicles has the right to revoke a driver’s license as a result of the re-examination.
The Villages Accident Attorney Helps Clients Get Compensation for Florida Car Accidents
Although the extent of any injuries in the Villages accident is not clear, the fact is that these and other types of crashes often cause serious and even fatal injuries. They can come with life-changing consequences, both for the person injured and his or her family.
Fortunately, Florida law empowers anyone injured in a car accident to seek compensation from those responsible for the crash. The money damages often available in these cases includes compensation for medical bills, property damage, missed wages during recuperation, and any impact of the injury on long-term earning capacity. Additional punitive damages may also be available in cases involving particularly reckless conduct.
To get that compensation, you generally need to be able to prove negligence. For example, drivers owe others on the road a duty to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner. When a driver does not live up to that responsibility - whether by speeding, drinking and driving, texting behind the wheel, or engaging in other dangerous behavior - he or she is likely to be deemed negligent and liable for any injuries that happen as a result.
