At least three people were injured in a recent string of golf cart accidents, including two involving run-ins with cars.
A 76-year-old man reportedly was thrown from his golf cart after a sport utility vehicle turned into his path in the most recent accident.
The man was traveling north in the golf cart lane on Canal Street approaching the intersection of Shelbark Way, according to Villages News. A woman behind the wheel of a Ford Explorer, also heading north on Canal Street, made a right turn into the path. The golf cart driver swerved and struck a curb, ejecting the driver. He was later taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
Just one month earlier, a Villager was injured after colliding with a car on Morse Boulevard. The car reportedly made a right turn in front of the golf cart onto Carrera Drive at the Village of De La Vista East when the crash happened.
Villagers have long expressed safety concerns about the combining of car, golf cart, bicycle and other traffic in this stretch of Morse Boulevard.
The car drivers were ticketed in both crashes. The SUV driver was cited for failure to yield at an intersection. The driver in the second accident was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
A third recent crash - this time involving two golf carts - left a Villager with traumatic injuries.
A 77-year-old Village of Hadley man was thrown from his golf cart after colliding with another golf cart on Olanta Drive at the intersection of Stillwater Trail in the Village of Caroline, according to Villages-News. He was cited for violating the other driver’s right of way.
