A Villages intersection that has seen 16 crashes in the last three years could soon get an update.
The intersection of County Road 101 and Woodridge Drive should be changed to a multiway stop, according to a newly released Sumter County report. Currently, there are stop signs at Woodridge Drive where it intersects with CR 101, Villages-News says in a rundown of the report.
The report was commissioned after the string of collisions over a three-year period ending in September 2023. The vast majority - 14 out of 16 - of the crashes were “correctable,” the report concluded. The divers at fault in the accidents thought they had enough time to cross the interaction, according to the report.
One of those crashes resulted in a fatality, while another caused serious injury, the Villages-News reports.
“Based upon the crash history, traffic volumes, and field observations at the intersection of CR 101 and Woodridge Drive, it is recommended for the intersection to be converted to all-way stop control,” the report concluded.
That would mean adding stop signs to CR 101 where it intersects with Woodridge Drive or constructing a four-way traffic light. Sumter County commissioners are set to consider the report in a December meeting.
Compensation for Villages Car Accidents
Anyone who has been injured in a car accident in The Villages or across Florida has the right to seek compensation from those responsible for the crash.
That typically includes money damages for the financial impact of the crash. Medical expenses, property damage, missed wages and any reduction in earning capacity caused by the crash are all on the table.
To get that compensation, you have to be able to prove fault.
Florida car accident claims usually are based on negligence, a legal theory that holds people and entities liable when they do not live up to a certain “duty of care.” Drivers, for example, have a duty to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner and to comply with traffic laws. They are likely to be found liable for any injuries that result when they fail to do so.
Certain family members of a person who is killed in an accident can also ensure that those responsible are made accountable for their actions by suing for wrongful death.
The compensation available in these cases includes money for the loss of the deceased person’s earnings and companionship, as well as for mental anguish and suffering, medical and funeral expenses.
