An 83-year-old Villages man has been identified as the at-fault driver in a recent crash that sent him and two others to the hospital.
The man was charged with careless driving in the crash near the La Zamora Gate in The Villages, according to a report from Villages-News. He was reportedly trapped inside his sport utility vehicle, which rolled over after colliding with a Buick sedan driven by an 18-year-old motorist from the area.
The SUV driver was traveling westbound on County Road 466 when he attempted to make a left turn in front of the oncoming sedan, Villages-News reports. The sedan struck the SUV, causing it to roll over.
Emergency responders removed the SUV driver from his vehicle. He was later airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center with undisclosed injuries. Two sedan passengers were also sent to a hospital with injuries,
The sedan driver, who was not injured, was cited for driving on a suspended license.
Rollover accidents account for nearly one-third of all fatalities in crashes across the country every year. These kinds of collisions are particularly common among light trucks and SUVs, whose design and elevation make them susceptible to rolling over in the event of a crash.
Injured in an Accident? Here is What You Need to Know
Anyone who has been injured in a car accident in The Villages or across Florida has the right to seek compensation from those responsible for the crash.
Florida law imposes a “duty of care” on drivers, which requires them to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner under the circumstances. That means complying with traffic laws and refraining from dangerous activity behind the wheel, like speeding, drinking and driving or texting behind the wheel. A driver who does not live up to this standard is considered negligent and generally liable for any accidents that happen as a result.
The money damages typically available in Florida car accident cases include compensation for medical bills, property damage, missed wages during recuperation and any impact of the injuries on a person’s ability to earn a living and enjoy daily activities. In the tragic event that a person is killed in a crash, his or her loved ones can seek similar compensation for wrongful death.
