A Villages resident recently landed in the hospital after losing control of his gold cart near a tunnel.
The 89-year-old man’s foot got “stuck” on the accelerator pedal of his 2010 Yamaha golf cart on a recent afternoon in The Villages, according to Villages-News. He lost control of the vehicle while trying to dislodge his foot, Florida Highway Patrol told the news outlet.
The cart eventually collided with the tunnel, which runs under Buena Vista Boulevard and connects the Village of Bridgeport with a multi-use path in front of Palmer Legends Country Club. The vehicle overturned as a result of the collision. It is not clear whether the man was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver was sent to Ocala Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
